The Young Staggies were on the wrong end of a 3-0 loss to an on-form Hibernian side under the floodlights at the Global Energy Stadium on Tuesday September 26.
The writing was perhaps on the wall as early as the 3rd minute when Oli Shaw for the visitors had his effort ruled out for offside. Ten minutes later the same player stinged Ross Munro's palms as Hibs took control of the match.
But as the half wore on, County began to come back into the game. First Dow nearly netted after rounding the keeper only for a defender to block his shot on the line before, moments later, the County man went down in what looked like a stonewall penalty but which the referee waved away claims for.
On the half hour mark Shaw scored for Hibs from 15 yards and the sides went in at half time with the Leith team 1-0 to the good.
County started the second half strongly and both Dow and Dykes had efforts swatted away by the visiting keeper. However, as the hour mark loomed, Jamie Gullan headed home for Hibs to double their lead, before minutes later - as the Young Staggies threatened at the other end - breaking away to score again to make it 3-0 to Hibs.
Positives will be taken by how strong the young County side finished the half - threatening the Hibs goal on numerous occasions - but they could not make the breakthrough.
