On Tuesday January 8th the Young Staggies played their first friendly at their ERASMUS 2019-backed warm weather training camp. At their training facility in Albir, Spain, the team beat Spanish second tier outfit - CF Hercules U20s - 3-0 with goals from Mark Gallagher, Ross MacIver and Jack Noel. The convincing victory also saw the team have three goals disallowed.
The Reserves, coached by Richie Brittain, enjoyed three days of training under the winter sun before facing CF Hercules U20s. Their next friendly - against fello Spanish team, FC L'Alfàs del Pi, was played on January 10 and saw the team run out 5-0 winners. In an extremely competitive game that belied the eventual comfortable margin of victory, County saw their hard work on the training pitch pay off as they put five past their opponents with Ross MacIver and Charlie Watt netting once each and the impressive Marcus Goodall netting a well-deserved hat-trick.
As well as having Richie Brittain (Reserve Team Manager and Head of Professional Programme), Richard Hastings (Head of Youth Academy Programme), Gregor Campbell (Head of Academy Football Science & Medicine), Callum Mackaskill (Head Academy Physiotherapist) and Jim Kelly (Head of Academy Operations) as part of the travelling party, the Reserves were joined by club vice-captain, Liam Fontaine, who combined rehab with getting involved in coaching sessions as part of his own coach education.
