At the Highland Football Academy, Dingwall, a young Ross County Reserves team containing no less than seven U18s fell to a 3-1 loss to an experienced Celtic side.
In front of a crowd buoyed by the Easter holidays, County went behind to an early Welsh header then fell further behind on 15 minutes through a cool Dembele finish. The young home side steadied the ship thereafter and went in at half time with just a two goal deficit.
The Reserves were a different beast in the second half and within two minutes of the restart had created three goal-scoring chances: Gallagher was flagged offside in a goal-scoring positon before Kelly and MacBeath had good shots saved.
Within five minutes County had the goal they deserved when Ruari Fraser volleyed home from a Josh Reid corner to make it 1-2. Growing into the game, Reid hit the post on 61 minutes before Celtic went up the other end and scored through first-teamer Ewan Henderson.
In the last half hour County asked questions of the Celtic defence but couldn't find the goal that would get them back into the game. Late on, Dixon-Hodge made two great saves from another with first team experience - Mikey Johnston - to preserve the scoreline.
Ross County XI: Dixon-Hodge, Kelly, Johnstone, Grant, Murray, Reid, Gallagher, Hughes, Fraser, Wallace, Macbeath.
Celtic XI: Mullen, Ralston, Welsh, Duffy, Church, McInroy, Henderson, Coffey, Johnston, Dembele, Oko-Flex.
