On Sunday 13th March 2016 Ross County lifted the Scottish League Cup, presented by Utilita, after Alex Schalk scored from close range in the final minutes of the game.
County took the lead in the first half against the run of play when Jackson Irvine burst through the Hibs defence and played Michael Gardyne in on goal. Gardyne rode a challenge from Hibs' last defender and goalkeeper before passing the ball into an empty net.
Hibs equalised shortly before half-time through a Liam Fontaine strike after the ball broke to him from a corner.
The second half saw County impose themselves more and with the game stretched as both sides visibly tired, Gardyne broke down the left flank curling a cross in towards Brian Graham which a retreating Hibs defender could only knock in to Schalk's path. The Dutch striker seized his chance and County held on to win the club's first League Cup.
The club would like to thank all Staggies supporters for making today such a special occasion.
The team now moves straight back onto premiership duty with crucial matches against St Johnstone and Inverness Caley on Wednesday and Saturday as they attempt to secure a top 6 finish. Book your tickets for the Caley game online now.
