Ross County 0-1 Dundee (Shaughnessy 95’) Attendance - 4014
By Peter Mackay
Ross County conceded with the last touch of the game as Joe Shaughnessy turned in from a Luke McCowan free kick.
Despite strong claims from the Ross County players, the goal stood, and Dundee left Dingwall with all three points.
Derek Adams made just one singular change to his side which lost out in Paisley to St Mirren. Returning from suspension, Will Nightingale replaced the injured Dylan Smith.
Yan Dhanda struck a shot straight from kick-off on the halfway, line and came close with his attempt too. It just sailed past Trevor Carson to the left of his goal.
Dundee had the first corner of the match and caused problems from it, Luke McCowan fired a strike on goal but the head of Jack Baldwin denied it troubling Ross Laidlaw in the County sticks.
Simon Murray drove at Owen Beck and floated a perfect cross to the back post. Ben Purrington arrived late at the back stick and headed what looked like a certain goal, however Dundee defender Jordan McGhee managed to keep the scores level with a remarkable block.
Simon Murray missed a golden chance to make it one-nil to the Staggies. He plucked the ball out of the sky and beat Trevor Carson with his low strike, but it was that man again Jordan McGhee who slid in to save the day for Dundee on a second occasion.
Murray was again the player causing the problems for the Dundee backline. He drove down the left wing and cut inside on his right foot. He fired a shot towards the goal, but Carson saved strongly.
James Brown had the first chance of the second half for County after, you guessed it, Simon Murray broke down the wing and cut across the box. Brown swivelled onto his left foot and fired well over the crossbar.
County came knocking on the door again soon after and looked like they were in the ascendancy. Yan Dhanda powered a free-kick towards goal which was flicked on by a Staggieattacker – but the ball skimmed the roof of the net.
Bakayoko will be wondering how he didn’t score, as he met the ball with his head ever so close to the goal line, but he somehow managed to head over the bar – to the relief of the County players.
After some great exchange on the right-hand side, James Brown slipped in Eamonn Brophy. His shot came close but was saved by Carson well. James Brown had a golden chance to grab County an opener but somehow put the ball over the bar.
Owen Beck had a moment of brilliance with two dummies to send County bodies flying – he fired a strike that was just about turned off the line by a County man and away to safety.
It was an absolute sickener at the very very end for the Staggies. They concede at a free kick in a dangerous area on the right-hand side of the box. Luke McCowan struck the freekick and cannoned off the post and into the path of Joe Shaughnessy. He scored to make it 1-0 with no time left to play.
Despite incredibly strong claims from the County players that there was something wrong with the goal, the referee questionably blew the full-time whistle despite Dundee fans still streaming all over the park.
That was all to be had in Dingwall, in a sickening result for Ross County.
