Fresh off the back of a win in their first home league game of the season, Ross County’s senior women went on the road looking to seal their place in the Regional League Cup quarter finals.

County had topped their group with two wins and two draws from their four matches to make it into the knockout rounds, but standing in the way of further progress was fellow SWFL North side Arbroath.

The two teams are right beside each other in the league table, which suggested it could have been a close affair, but County could take confidence from knowing their six points came from two matches while Arbroath’s six points came from four.

Rhea Hossack was the headline name back in County’s starting 11, which also included Keira Syrjanen after recovering from an injury which forced her off the previous week against Grampian.

Abi Coltherd on the other hand was out of the squad altogether as head coach Iain MacIver was forced into multiple changes.

Still, County will have felt they had the upper hand in the first half despite the game remaining goalless after 45 minutes.

Their patience was rewarded after the restart though, as Rhea Hossack finally broke the deadlock by rounding the goalkeeper to put the visiting side ahead.

Hossack would score again in practically a replay of her first effort to continue her prolific record since signing for the club in the summer and put County in the driving seat, and Arbroath could not find a way to goal in response.

Final score: Arbroath 0-2 Ross County

Goalscorers: Rhea Hossack x2

Player of the match: Daisy Fraser
