Ross County Women see off Stonehaven in style

Ross County Women rounded off what has been a historic 2024 in style with an 8-0 victory over Stonehaven.

Multiple postponements since their last match against Arbroath in the League Cup meant it had been almost a month since County's players took to the pitch, but they never looked like being caught cold at Millburn Academy in Inverness.

There was something of a cagey start in the Highland capital, but once Rhea Hossack broke the deadlock the floodgates began to open.

County's joint-top scorer across all competitions would claim a second before half time, but a fast start after the interval really saw County pull clear of their opponents.

First it was Abi Coltherd who was played in behind the visiting defence to slot home County's third, before Hossack would add a fourth, fifth and sixth to bring her personally tally to five for the afternoon.

There was still time to improve the scoreline, though, with two very similar goals seeing crosses from the left wing converted at close range by Agnes Hooper and Reese Flaws to make it 8-0 by the time the final whistle was blown.

The victory means County move up to third in the SWFL North table, only behind Elgin City on goal difference and three points behind leaders Grampian with two games in hand.

While competitive action for 2024 is now complete, County can already look ahead to their return to action in the new year, which is set to be against Aberdeen on January 12th.
