Staggies Women come out on wrong side of nine goal thriller

01/04/2025

Ross County are relying on favours from other teams in the SWFL North title race after coming out the wrong side of a nine-goal thriller against Elgin City in Alness.

A nightmare start for County saw them go two goals behind inside 15 minutes through Mia Lundberg and an own goal.

However, two goals inside a minute from Rhea Hossack and Rhiannon Ebrihem brought the scores back level before 20 minutes had been played.

Lily Morrison pounced just before half time to send Elgin into the interval back in front, but the tide would turn again after the restart as Mollie Parker and Ebrihem each found the net to put County 4-3 ahead in the 52nd minute.

It could have been a pivotal moment in the title race, with Elgin’s perfect record at risk, but instead the Borough Briggs outfit found a way to come back.

Lundberg claimed her second to level the scores at 4-4 midway through the second half, before Morrison scored a winner just three minutes before the end.

Elgin’s victory means that they now sit three points clear at the top of the table with two games in hand.

County will look to return to winning ways this weekend away at Arbroath, who sit fourth in the standings.
