The Staggies kicked off their Premiership campaign in style, sweeping past Hamilton Accies at the Global Energy Stadium three goals to nil. Strikes from Joe Chalmers and Billy McKay in the first half with a headed goal from Ross Stewart in the second half wrapped up the first 3 points of the campaign.
County had the best of the opening exchanges and Chalmers was unlucky not to put the Staggies in front when his curled effort went just beyond Owain Fon Williams in the Hamilton goal. However, only moments later it would be Chalmers who would put County in the lead. Billy McKay managed to pick out Chalmers on the edge of the box and Joe kept the effort low and placed it beyond Fon Williams and in to the bottom left hand corner of the net.
Billy McKay would double the Ross County lead only minutes later. Ross Stewart closed down the Accies defence and won the ball in the channel. His cross made its way right to the back post where he found Billy McKay who had the simplest of tap-ins.
County started the second half in lightening fashion and had 3 chances in the opening few minutes. On 56 minutes Ross County would get the killer 3rd goal. A Josh Mullin freekick on the left reached the head of Ross Stewart and the big striker directed the ball beyond Fon Williams and in to the bottom corner of the net.
Brian Graham could and should have made it 4-0 with only 7 minutes remaining. He was picked out in the box and left one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Graham attempted to chip Fon Williams but in doing so also chipped over the bar.
It was a great opening display from the Staggies in front of an audience including the class of 1994/95, the first Ross County team to enter the Scottish Professional Leagues.
